'Women let down as birthing centre remains shut'

Alex Fearnley had a fantastic experience giving birth to her son, Teddy, and felt that Ingleside Birth and Community Centre would have been the perfect setting for it. She believes its calm environment and birthing pool make it much nicer than a hospital. Since opening in 2018, Ingleside replaced the maternity unit at Salford Royal Hospital. However, births at Ingleside are currently on hold due to staffing issues with midwifery, a decision described by NHS Greater Manchester as difficult but necessary. Alex finds the lack of progress in reopening the centre for births quite frustrating.
