Virgin Atlantic expands Manchester Airport-USA routes as Aer Lingus to end long-haul flights

Virgin Atlantic is ramping up its long-haul routes from Manchester Airport to Orlando this summer, adding 12% more capacity during peak season with new direct flights. This comes after Aer Lingus announced it will end its transatlantic services from Manchester by the end of March. Virgin Atlantic plans to increase capacity to Orlando by 17% for winter 2026 and expects further growth in summer 2027. They currently fly to four US destinations from Manchester and a winter service to Barbados. The airline will also welcome some Aer Lingus pilots and is working to support customers impacted by flight cancellations. Chief Commercial Officer Dave Geer highlighted Manchester’s significance to the airline, emphasising their long-term commitment to the region. Manchester Airport’s Chief Commercial Officer, Stephen Turner, expressed excitement about enhancing connections between the North and the world, celebrating Virgin Atlantic’s 30 years at the airport.
