Tributes after death of 'hero and legend' mountain rescue team stalwart

Geoff Seddon, a beloved member of the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team (BMRT), has sadly passed away at the age of 75 after a short battle with cancer. He joined BMRT at 19 and served tirelessly for over 56 years, even leading the team from 1973 to 1981. Known for his dedication to mountain rescue nationally and regionally, Geoff held numerous leadership roles, including Deputy Team Leader until 2014. He was also an engaged community member, instructing youth in outdoor activities and being active with Bolton Canoe Club. His noteworthy contributions included participating in major rescue operations, like the search for a missing boy in Bowland, and responding to floods in Stockport. Geoff received multiple awards for his service, including several Queen’s medals. He was cherished for his wisdom, humour, and unwavering integrity, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. The BMRT expressed their deep sadness at his passing, stating he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
