Thousands ring in 2026 – after a year like no other in Manchester

As the clock hit midnight, Manchester buzzed with thousands bidding farewell to an unforgettable year. The city’s vibrant Christmas markets and the iconic big wheel brought in loads of visitors and locals alike. Thankfully, the rain stayed away on New Year’s Eve, with spectacular fireworks lighting up the sky near Central Library, accompanied by Oasis tunes and a lively crowd. Local businesses, recently hit hard by the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis, welcomed the festive spirit. That day saw Manchester rallying in solidarity, showcasing its indomitable spirit. As families, tourists, and couples gathered in St Peter’s Square, each person brought their unique story, united by hope and a desire for a fresh start, embodying the true essence of Manchester.
