Tenants told to leave tower block 'will stay put'
Residents of the College Bank tower blocks in Rochdale, known as the Seven Sisters, are determined to stay put despite their homes being labelled unsafe. The iconic structures, built in the 1960s, house over 700 flats. Rochdale Boroughwide Housing had partnered with Legal & General Affordable Housing in 2023 to explore refurbishment options, but that agreement recently ended without a solution. Long-time resident Billy Jackson, who’s been in his Tentercroft flat for 37 years, expressed his reluctance to move, calling it “an absolute nightmare.” Rochdale MP Paul Waugh shared his concern, noting that tenants have already been living in uncertainty for years.
