Suspect named after alleged strangulation and assault on Manchester canal towpath
A man has been charged after a woman was reportedly attacked on the Bridgewater Canal towpath near Manchester city centre in the early hours of November 30, 2025. The incident occurred around 2.50am close to Timber Wharf in Castlefield. Following an investigation, 20-year-old Colin Hanrahan from Chester Road has been charged with Section 47 assault (actual bodily harm) and strangulation. He’s currently remanded in police custody and is set to appear at Manchester Crown Court today, January 16, 2026. Greater Manchester Police confirmed the charges and ongoing legal proceedings.
