Stockport SEND school picks up national award

Lisburne School in Stockport has bagged a national award for ‘project of the year’ at the Education Estates Awards. This recognition highlights their efforts in creating welcoming spaces for all students, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Opened in December 2024 after a £15.5m investment, Lisburne School serves 208 students aged 4-11 with complex needs, featuring a forest school, bespoke classrooms, and a sensory garden. Headteacher Samantha Benson praised the construction team at AtkinsRéalis for bringing their vision to life, emphasising the importance of creating an inspiring environment that meets their pupils’ diverse needs. Councillor Wendy Meikle also celebrated the achievement, noting how the school is transforming lives and communities through its focus on inclusive, high-quality educational spaces.
