Stockport local heroes honoured in 2026 New Year Honours list

Four Stockport locals have been honoured in the 2026 New Year Honours list for their remarkable contributions. Julia Fawcett received a CBE for her leadership at the Lowry theatre, humbly sharing the accolade with her team and community. Phillip Gould-Bourn was recognised with an MBE for his dedication to preserving Cheadle’s heritage as the head of the Cheadle Civic Society. Bernard Stevens also earned an MBE for his 50 years of service with the Kinder Mountain Rescue Team and work with young people, downplaying his role by emphasising teamwork. Lastly, Mark Whittaker received a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire for his long-term support of the Marple community through the Marple Website. Other notable recipients included the Lionesses’ manager Sarina Wiegman and actor Idris Elba.
