Stockport Council pays tribute to 'music legend and Heatons Hero' Mani

Stockport Council joined many others in paying tribute to the legendary musician Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield, who sadly passed away on 20 November 2025. Originally from Crumpsall and a long-time Heaton Moor resident, Mani was renowned for his bass playing with The Stone Roses and Primal Scream. A council spokesperson expressed their sadness, highlighting him as a Manchester icon and a beloved figure from the Heatons. Tributes poured in from fellow musicians like Richard Ashcroft, who called him one of the “loveliest positive musicians” to be around, alongside accolades from Paul Weller and Liam Gallagher. Mani’s warm personality and musical talent were deeply appreciated by all who knew him.
