St Mary's Church to receive over £300,000 for urgent repairs
St Mary’s Church in Stockport, one of the town’s oldest landmarks, has secured a £343,234 grant from the National Heritage Lottery Fund for urgent repairs. This funding aims to preserve the Grade I listed building for future generations, making it more inviting, accessible, and sustainable while maintaining its historical elements. The church plans to continue hosting various events such as gigs, food festivals, self-guided tours, and heritage escape rooms. Revd Chris Blunt expressed gratitude for the grant, emphasising its importance in ensuring the church remains a place of worship and community engagement. Local council member Cllr Micheala Meikle highlighted the significance of St Mary’s as a cherished part of Stockport’s heritage. Project Lead Peter Breeden also noted that the funding will help link more people to the church’s rich story through thoughtful conservation and creative experiences.
