Respected national water polo coach tragically found dead in hotel room

Andrew McGinty, a well-respected 34-year-old water polo coach, was found dead in a hotel room in Bury on December 18. Known for his significant contributions to the England and Great Britain water polo teams, tributes have poured in from across the community, highlighting his positive influence on young players. Swim England expressed deep sadness over his passing, acknowledging the impact on those who knew him. Bolton School, where he had coached since 2011, described the news as a moment of great sorrow, noting his dedication and passion for the sport. The City of Manchester Water Polo Club also paid tribute, highlighting his integral role in developing the club and supporting younger players. An inquest was opened and adjourned, with the coroner confirming there’s no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Investigations will include police reports and medical records to ascertain any mental health issues or suicidal thoughts. Andy is remembered fondly by many in the Manchester water polo community and will be greatly missed.
