Manchester school to halve pupil numbers as leaders issue statement

King David Primary School in Crumpsall, North Manchester, is planning to halve its pupil intake from 60 to 30, mainly for future admissions, due to a drop in demand linked to a shift in families supporting the school’s ethos and a nationwide decline in birth rates. Current students won’t be impacted, as the change will roll out gradually over seven years, aiming to keep classes full and ensure the school’s sustainability and unique Jewish identity. This decision follows analysis of demographic trends and is expected to take effect from September 2027. The secondary school isn’t anticipated to be affected by this change.
