Major police update after man shot in the street in Greater Manchester town centre

A man is in a ‘stable but critical condition’ after being shot in Urmston, Trafford, around 8.40pm on January 16. Emergency services responded quickly, treating the 21-year-old at the scene before taking him to hospital. Greater Manchester Police believe the incident was a targeted attack and have stated there is no wider threat to the public, noting that such incidents are becoming rarer in the area. Extra patrols are ongoing in the region. Witnesses noted a ripped puffa jacket near the scene, suggesting a struggle. GMP has made significant efforts to reduce firearm incidents, reporting a 59% decrease in discharges this year compared to 2021. They’re urging anyone with information or footage from the night to come forward and report it.
