Funding 'will help preserve Tameside's heritage'
A National Lottery grant will help preserve Tameside’s “unique” heritage, particularly at the Portland Basin Museum, situated in a restored 19th Century Ashton Canal Warehouse. This funding is part of the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Heritage Places scheme, which seeks to deepen people’s connections with their local history. Tameside boasts over 300 listed buildings, including the former Museum of the Manchester Regiment in Ashton Town Hall, which shut its doors in 2015.
