'Asylum seeker hostility' saddens church leaders
Church leaders in Greater Manchester are expressing sadness over the “hostility” directed at asylum seekers staying in local hotels, particularly the Cresta Court Hotel, which has been home to around 300 male asylum seekers since November 2024. Recent protests outside the hotel have drawn significant police attention. Research from the Migration Observatory at Oxford University highlights that approximately 32,000 asylum seekers were living in hotels across the UK in early 2025. A local resident, John Seal, voiced his concerns, mentioning the uncertainty surrounding the identity of the men residing there.
